Set your treatment goals

Start with what you want to change: getting through the day without planning around a product, sleeping more comfortably, keeping your job, being present with family, or finding a different way to manage pain.

MedlinePlus describes shared decision making as a conversation that combines clinical expertise with your goals and values. A useful first consultation should leave room for both.

Make a shortlist around three questions

The right first call is one where the team understands the product you use and can explain what its service actually includes. A provider that publishes a kratom article may still need to confirm whether it treats concentrated 7-OH products.

  • Does this provider assess people using my exact product or formulation?
  • What does care look like: online visits, regular appointments, a residential stay or hospital treatment?
  • Can I realistically manage the location, time away, cost and follow-up?

Look for a clear explanation

Ask what the clinician recommends, why it fits your situation, what alternatives exist and what happens if the plan needs to change. You should be able to repeat the plan back in ordinary words.

Use the comparison tool to keep two or three options side by side. The substance labels describe what a provider publishes; admission and individual suitability still need to be confirmed directly.
