Compare the same unit

A low assessment price is not the cost of a whole treatment plan. A monthly online-care fee is not directly comparable with a residential stay or hospital procedure. First ask what period and services each number covers.

When we show a published price, read the unit and the source date with it. If a provider does not publish a price, ‘not published’ means you need a quote; it does not mean free or unusually expensive.

Request an itemized estimate

Ask the provider to separate the clinical charge from the practical costs of attending. These are questions to ask, not assumptions that every program charges for every item.

  • Assessment, appointments and the main treatment or stay.
  • Medicines, laboratory work, other testing and outside clinicians.
  • Room, meals, companion arrangements and transportation.
  • Follow-up visits, refills, counseling and aftercare.
  • Deposit, cancellation, rescheduling and refund terms.

If using insurance, check your own plan

‘Insurance accepted’ does not tell you your personal bill. MedlinePlus explains that deductibles, copayments and coinsurance can affect what you pay. Ask both the provider and insurer about your plan, the exact service and the specific location.

For a payment plan, ask for the total amount payable and financing terms, alongside the treatment quote. Keep the written estimate.

  • Is this provider and service in network for my plan?
  • Is authorization required before treatment?
  • What is my estimated responsibility, and which costs are excluded?
