Setting and treatment are separate questions

The place you receive care and the treatment you receive are not the same thing. An online provider may offer clinician visits and prescriptions. A residential program may combine accommodation with therapy and medical services. A hospital service may focus on a particular medical treatment. Ask for the actual plan, rather than relying on the label.

MedlinePlus describes opioid care across medical, counseling, residential and hospital settings. Those general descriptions do not establish which program is suitable for your particular kratom or 7-OH use.

What each setting asks you to plan around

  • Online or office-based care: ask about appointment frequency, prescriptions, pharmacy access, state availability and support between visits.
  • Medically supervised withdrawal: ask how symptoms are monitored, who provides care overnight, and what treatment follows stabilization.
  • Residential treatment: ask where you stay, how much clinical contact you receive, medication access, the daily schedule and family contact.
  • Hospital or procedure-based care: ask about the specific procedure, assessment, anesthesia if relevant, the hospital team, recovery time and follow-up.

Ask about the evidence for the proposed plan

For diagnosed opioid use disorder, CDC recommends evidence-based medication treatment and says detoxification alone is not recommended because it can increase the risk of returning to use and overdose. Buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone have FDA approval for OUD. That approval is not a blanket approval of a kratom- or 7-OH-specific protocol.

Ask how the clinician applies the evidence to your situation, what benefits and risks it expects, which alternatives it considered, and how progress will be reviewed. If a provider offers a different or proprietary approach, ask for evidence about that particular approach and the full continuing-care plan.
